Project Description

W.M. Schlosser was awarded this project in March 2019 to remove and replace of thirty-two (32) 30” filter drain valves, install eighteen (18) new motorized actuators and reinstall fourteen (14) existing motorized actuators, and appurtenances.

The Potomac water filtration plant produces a maximum of 283 million gallon water per day for Montgomery County and Price George County communities. This project represents operational improvements to the Plant Operation. From field observations by the Potomac E/M Staff, all thirty-two (32) 30” filter drain valves indicated the amount of leakage from moderate to severe. Up to three (3) filters to be out of service at a time for the replacement which will be sequenced in accordance with the observation survey.

The replacement of thirty-two (32) 30” filter drain valve includes survey and/or verify the existing condition and dimensions of drain valves and appurtenances, and design the new drain valves with appropriate fittings. Remove and dispose of existing drain valves. Furnish and install new filter drain valves, dresser couplings and appropriate fittings, as required. Test for performance and confirm that desired performance results are met.
