Project Description

This historically significant project involved the construction of the new Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center in Church Creek, MD. The project consisted of four new buildings: a Museum and Exhibit Building, an Administration Building, a Storage Garage, and a Pavilion. The project was certified LEED Silver.

The buildings were designed to visually complement the history and life of Harriet Tubman. Exposed heavy timbers and glue laminated beams were installed. Other items included structural concrete; masonry and cut stone; structural steel and miscellaneous metals; millwork and fiber cement siding; zinc metal exterior wall panels; vegetative roofing; aluminum entrances and storefronts; specialties; and sprinkler. The hardscape work was designed to complement the historic, and rustic, nature of the buildings. The landscape package was equally impressive, and the landscape architect was heavily involved in the site appearance.

We were very proud of this museum and the quality of the workmanship. There were very few change orders and the project was completed on schedule. Our relationship with the State of Maryland was excellent and we were lauded for this project.
